Scan, Connect, Support
In an age where digital connection meets community care, the Rotary East Community Group (RCG East) Mental Health & Wellbeing QR Code Project is bridging the gap between awareness and access—one scan at a time. The RCG East is a collection of 13 Rotary and Rotaract clubs spanning 6 council areas including Whitehorse, Boroondara, Manningham, Monash, Maroondah and Nillumbik.
Mental health challenges often go unseen—and unspoken. Many people hesitate to ask for help due to fear, shame, or uncertainty. This project removes barriers by:
- Offering instant access to support without needing to speak up
- Supporting students, seniors, in fact all of the community in everyday settings
- Providing information not only to those in need but also to families supporting them free of stigma and data collection.
As one advocate put it, “Sometimes all someone needs is a gentle nudge—a quiet invitation to take that first step. A QR code can be that nudge.”
The QR Code Project is a simple, yet powerful initiative designed to make mental health resources more accessible, discreet, and to connect individuals with vital support services instantly. By scanning our QR code, users gain direct access to a curated list of mental health and wellbeing contacts, including crisis helplines, counselling services, community support networks, and self-care resources. Once you have scanned the QR code using a mobile, users are able to instantly click on the resource they want to connect to and directly dial for help. Whether you're seeking help for yourself or supporting someone else, the tool puts trusted guidance right at your fingertips — anytime, anywhere. It works simple - scan the code find the service you need and click on the hyperlinked phone number. (see video below)

We are hoping to place QR codes strategically in locations where people naturally pause or gather—bathrooms, carparks, public spaces, schools, shopping centres, community hubs, in fact anywhere at all. Currently we are seeking support from Councils, Government authorities and any organisation who is willing to support this invaluable and important resource by providing funds to place our scannable QR codes everywhere we can.
With growing interest, the QR Code Project is poised to expand across Melbourne and beyond. It’s not just about technology— the project thrives on partnerships and is about creating connection, support, and hope - because mental health matters.
