2023 saw the inaugural Community Safety Award presented to a young lady who intervened in an alleged attempted child abduction on a crowded local tram. The award was presented to Chelsea Spencer by Mayor of Whitehorse, Cr Mark Lane. Cr Lane described how Chelsea's tenacity was to be commended, her brave efforts to step in no doubt saved a young primary student from harm.
We were fortunate to have in attendance our guest speaker Detective Senior Sergeant Rob Milliken from Transit CIU who explained about investigating serious crimes on our public transport network and investigating officer Detective Senior Constable Chris Andrew who provided us with information about Chelsea's efforts which resulted in the apprehension of the perpetrator.
Drew and Lisa from Bunnings Box Hill were also on hand to present Chelsea with a voucher for her efforts, but the most amazing and touching moment was when the young student and his family were able to personally thank Chelsea with a beautiful bunch of flowers.
We thank our wonderful supporters for assisting us in acknowledging a member of our community whose actions have assisted to make the Box Hill Burwood area safer.
The Rotary Club of Box Hill Burwood look for to hopefully making our Community Safety Award an annual event.
